Screwed over pressure plate

Heya
Was driving to carlingford yesterday-got to baulkam hills when i couldn't change gears 8O pulled over, and i could smell somethin funky. on closer inspection it appears that the pressure plate has been seriously mangled, possibly by the thrust race. Dad managed to drive it home in traffic by just flat shifting, but it'll be off the road until it gets fixed. although we did get a bit of sand in there, we suspect that something has broken causing the thrust race to get jammed into the pressure plate. just started noticing problems 30 minutes before i had to stop. anything like this happened to anyone else? and while i've got the engine anyone reckon i should check/renew anything?
Cheers,

Big Al

If you have had the clips on the thrust bearing snap the thrust bearing can spin so it requires more clutch to release

Well, wouldn't ya know it - the same thing happened to me yesterday! Something is making a high pitched squeeling noise sometimes, and the clutch makes a scraping noise when it is disengaged.

took the engine out today-a bit of sand in the gearbox! but that wasn't the problem-suby wan kenobi was right the bearing clips had been snapped off. there was so much pressure that the bearing itself is now 10mm shorter 8O pressure plate and clutch release fork are also screwed :? . interestingly, radiator was in bad need of repair-at stockton all the paint on the back got stripped & it's oxidised-ordered a new one from a south australian mob who are still cheaper than any local blokes  will post picks l8r tonite

btw peejay exact same thing was happening to me-got almost better some days but the next thing u kno it would shudder badly-with metal on metal sound. seriously look into repairing it-clutch kit cost me a whole $220 i think

Yep, same thing happened to me before! I never did work out what caused it, I just fixed everything that needed fixing and I haven't had a problem since.
