Brumby - hard to get reverse to engage

My brother has decided to keep his Brumby, and has since told me it is hard to engage reverse.

Without seeing the car, as he lives some 150kms away from me, I suggested it maybe the shifter linkage needs adjustment, check gearbox and engine mounts etc.

Anyone had this problem before, and what you did to fix this?

Cheers, Roger.

VERY common MY problem is the sloppy gear stick... where the linkage connects to the rod that inserts into the gear box gets thrashed out and can make it difficult to get it into reverse.... Most fix this by slotting the sleave that goes over the rod... so when the bolt is done up the sleave closes over and clamps onto the rod.

I think that made sence.

No worries... it caught me out back with my first MY.... i bought a replacement gear box only to find it was that. I could not get it into reverse at all and had been told reverse was the first gear that goes... so i made an expensive assumption.

I also find reverse to be a difficult gear to engage, even with very little linkage slop. When engaging reverse I always select 3rd first, stops the gearbox and makes selecting reverse easier. Have done this now for several years, its an unconscious action now, and no I haven't had any synchro problems with 3rd gear.

Definitely address the slop though.
