The manual states to use SAE80W-90 for the EA81 4WD, 4 speed gearbox.
This is for the gearbox and the front diff.
Anyone got a favourite brand they find gives them a better shift change and maybe a different viscosity other than the 80W-90.
Or just stick with this.
This is very embarrassing but I don't recall ever changing the MY gearbox oil since I put the box into the car in 2001

Sad thing is many manual boxes go through life with what they left the factory with !

I'd just go the usual and add some Nulon G70 for good measure

Even more rear diffs go through life with factory oil, don't forget to do that one as well.

True, I will do it later as it is easier and quicker to get to

The rear diff plugs are fun! Most people get away with using a 1/2" drive but mine were stuck solid. I ended up getting a 13mm square male socket for it...

Really? Put g/box oil change on my to do list then...every 4sp I've ever driven has shifted like total crap and has made me hate them forever

Sam , be curious to know if your dad recalls changing SB's gearoil - might be yer problem ?

Picked up some Nulon 80W-90 gearbox/diff oil and some G70 for good measure.
Don't know when I will get time to do the jobs as it is raining/other stuff on/car being used over the weekend etc but should be all OK

yep really the 4sp dont have a good reputation but once the slop is fixed i like the 4sp
