the green turbo dash light comes on at certain revs,load or something (pressure?)

can someone tell me owners manual explanation please ?

or your own experiences

comes on when the inlet has positve pressure ie:boost

The official word in an Owner's manual (and basically what Subaman said) -:
The turbo light goes on when the turbocharger is operating and intake manifold pressure is above the atmospheric pressure.

If the light does not go on while driving with the accelerator pedal fully pressed, contact the nearest SUBARU dealer immediately.
As if my nearest "SUBARU" dealer would care! :?

Also a few moments after the green light comes on the computer will switch to open loop mode and apply a rich mixture, so if you'll go through fuel quite quickly if your green light is on a lot. This enrichment will also occur above 3500RPM regardless if the light is on or not.

that would explain the black soot all over the back of my shed door !
