Looking at my EA82T for removal, things are a bit different than normally aspirated, namely the hairdyer and associated plumbings .

What do you have to undo and / or remove before lifting motor out or just remove heads. Take fuel lines and cables etc as a given thing.

Do you take the back door approach and remove exhaust from turbo first, then turbo oil line in and out , then water then stay bracket, then crossover pipe..

Does crossover pipe come off before lifting engine ?? Or is it stuck there ?

OR

If I choose to do heads in car ( even though I have said it is easier to work on out of car) because of the auto , lines and bloody messy tranny fluid, do you just remove exhaust studs and timing belts etc of course.

Same as for an NA engine, although instead of disconnecting the exhaust at the headers disconnect the downpipe from the turbo. Lift the motor out with the headers and turbo attached.

thanks Tim, I shoulda seen that so easily

I am thinking less crap around the place if I just do heads insitu, removing exhaust studs if they come, running motor to op temp just before loosening them with nut locked against nut. see how I go
