My niece has a '06 Foz, with 4EAT, & after some adventurous 4WDng had a mystery oil leak from somewhere towards the back of the engine. The mechanic thinks a rear main seal but I cant see how going offroad would cause an engine seal to go

She did get stuck in a deep bog & I am wondering if water got sucked into the diff or tranny via the breathers, increasing its volume, could this force a seal to leak?

It may have just been a coincidence that it happened just after 4WDing, but could have also got some sand/dirt/mud/water up behind the flywheel. I'd just wash it down with some degreaser and watch it over the next couple of days. Also check all the fluid levels and oil colours to be on the safe side.

Just heard from her, she had the rear main seal done. I think cost ~$800 :(

I think its very possible some grit or something got washed up there, hastening the leak...

I gotta start putting my prices up

just hope that its fixed the leak and isnt leaking from some were else
