Brumby -Diff mount bracket bush

Hi All,
According to workshop manuals I have read, to replace the diff mount bush (pinion mount bush), it only requires the mounting bracket to body & bracket retaining bolts to be removed. Lowering the diff (supported by trolley jack of course) will provide enough clearance for the bracket to be removed.
In practice however there is not enough clearance for bracket removal.

Do I need to remove anything else to get this bracket out (tail shaft maybe)? I don't want to drop the diff unless it is absolutely necessary as this is the only worn bush.
Rear of the car is on ramps....Thanks for any info or shortcuts

Undo the 2 bolts on the back of diff that secure it to the moustache bar, the diff will then drop down low enough to ge at the pinion mount bush.

I just replaced mine in honeycombe (yellow MY wagon) and you don't have to remove the tail shaft but you need undo the large bolt at the top, the 4x 17mm nuts at the bottom of that diff mount bracket and lastly the rear diff support bar (moustache bar). I found it easier to undo the 2x 19mm nuts on the outer parts of the moustache bar but make sure you have some sort of support under the diff before you undo these 19mm nuts.

I searched everywhere to get some polyurethane ones but the best I could come up where ones I needed to modify before fitting. Even with this small mod, they turned out great and so happy with the outcome. I'll post some pics if you want?

OK, Thanks, so I guess the whole diff has to be lowered. The 19mm bolts on end of moustache bar definitely looks the easiest option, was very reluctant to remove 2 bolts on back of diff, look to be PITA to realign. Will get it done over the weekend.

I also had difficulty sourcing polyurethane ones, but after much searching & a little guess work I ended up with SUPERPRO No. SPF3005K. Measured it up & looks good to me.
It does require removal of old shell so I will have to carefully cut it with a hacksaw & knock it out with Hammer (have no access to a press) & push the new one in using large bolt & steel plates, have done this before seems to work OK.

I too had to cut my shell out, as I think that was easier than trying to press out. The replacement one I got was the red Nolathane kit #46159 as this came in 2 halves and didn't require pressing in but I think the kit you got looks better. Here's a pic on mine in place

That's interesting, I tried chasing up a Nolathane from local parts shop & was told they don't exist:(.
Thanks for the pic. & idea, If I have trouble pushing it in will cut in half & press both sides in with a bench vice. Once it is all bolted up it cant go anywhere!

I used the Superpro SPK3005 kit, Pressed it in myself using a 100mm bench vice - no prob at all :)
BTW this kit is available on an Ebay store for around $50.

Thanks, if they press in that easy I shouldn't have any dramas. Good to know the same bush fits the cross member also.

Beautiful job you've done on your diff.........Can I borrow it?:D

Hey guys trying to change this bush in a Brumby. ..
Got the mount out no worries but cant get the shell out. I tried cutting two grooves to knock it out but the shell doesnt want to seperate from the mount. ..

Been trying to use a mallet with both screw drivers and nail punches.
Any ideas?

I placed the hacksaw cuts opposite each other, knocked out half a shell then the other using FBH & steel pin punch. No, they don't come out easily.

I took mine to a workshop, 11 ton and $20 later presto. Much easier than mucking around with it at home:mad:

I broke my 12 tonne press at work over Christmas trying to get a cv out of a SG Forester hub...
