EJ22 head fix

Post by Nobby » Mon Mar 17, 2014 6:18 pm

Hi all, I have decided to do a head gasket job on the liberty wagon. It is leaking really badly on number 2 and 4 cylinders. My question is where do I get a gasket set for it?I have seen a kit from the states with all sorts of gaskets in it for just over $100 aussie dollars,is that a good deal?and what do you think about the quality of the product?Or should i just get a head gasket only from a Subi dealer?
And also does anyone recommend a machine shop in sth east melbourne to reface the heads?

G'day Nobby,

I'd contact FROG and see what he can come up with for you. If that doesn't fit your budget look for a kit from a company you know/"trust". I've also been recommend "the import experts" as a seller on the US ebay.

While you're at it change your water pump - I didn't and I'm paying for it in extra downtime on the vehicle  Also a good time to put in a cam belt kit (can be purchased with a water pump) if you don't know the history of the engine.

Cheers

I have already done the water pump and timing belt & pulleys and all of the leaking oil seals,so I am really only needing the gaskets for the two heads.Or whatever else I may need for the head work.
I have never done this before and I am looking at doing it with the engine in the car.And YES i know it will be a pain, but I have no engine lifter so I am going to give it a go and see what happens.
Am I mad or can it be done??

Regards Robby.

Should be able to be done in the engine bay - won't be fun though!

I'd PM or drop a line to FROG in his section of the forum ;)

Cheers
