Hey peoples, I'm just chasing some info on the gear box crossmember for an awd conversion to a brumby. I would like a few photos if possible as most the threads have dead links. I'm planing on taking out the ej22, awd single range gear box diff ect out of the l series and putting it all in my brumby. The conversion the the l series is a bit agricultural at best... also will the rx cradle fit into the brumby? This is the list of stuff in the l series.
EJ22 liberty motor
GEN 1 running gear Rx cradle with sway bar
GEN 2 5 speed AWD box
4 wheel disk brakes
EFI fuel tank with external vl turbo fuel pump
Thanks

I believe that I have a gearbox cradle / mount for an EJ Gearbox into a brumby/my conversion that was being sold on Ebay some years ago in my shed somewhere, will look for it next weekend.

That would be awesome. The one in the l series is very dodgy to say the least and I want to do this properly

So here's a few photos on the quality workmanship... and a nice piece of wire through the cv... and thats just the start...

Are you going 5 stud? What are you doing for front CV shafts?

Not to sure yet. I have 4 wheel disk brakes already in 4 stud so I haven't completely decided yet. if I keep the 4 stud I'll get custom cv's. Its a bit of a headache going 5 stud and finding a c r o s s b r e d kit is getting hard as they're rare as hens teeth..

The other option is redrilling the 4 stud hubs to 6 stud.
As for the CV shafts you can use a mixture of brumby cage and bearings and Gen 1 cup to make the inner DOJ. That is if you stay with the 4 stud set up.
And yes that is a very agricultural gearbox mount.

Why gen 1 cups? Are they 25 spline?

I take it from the photos he is using the EJ box thats why I said Gen1 cup. And yes they are 25 spline. As I understand it the Gen 1 cups are easier to get, as apposed to the "L" EFI or turbo cups.

We're pretty lucky, I have a cv specialist about 15mins from my house and he'll build whatever you like. He did a few heavy duty cv/axel shafts for my skyline using thick 4wd shafts. Lasted for ages and they are priced very fairly. Ill be making a trip there when the time comes.

And yes I plan on using the ej box and Diff so I get FT4WD in the brumby.

hey mate i owned this car for about 8 years before the bloke you bought it from did
need any help identifying anything let me know - there's a lot of stuff from different cars in there
you can probably read through my old posts to find a bunch of stuff out
the ej22 conversion came from Shuffbag's red L, you can probably find out a bit from his posts too
pretty sad to see it being taken apart - was a solid rig
the red L donor
thanks

I did buy it with the intention of keeping it as is, spent just over a 1800$ on it getting all the wheel bearings cvs and engine and gearbox mounts fixed and got defected to regency a week later. The end result is they wanted all the rust repaired, seats fixed, seat belts replaced and a full engineering report done. Now has 2 canaries and been taken off the road. Not what i had planned but you win some and you loose some. Figured i just put all the gear in the brumby and go from there. Cheers for the info though ill be searching the posts for sure.

yowza
were you hooning it through the police car park or something? that's super unlucky. only thing i ever got pulled over for was the worn number plates, and even that was before the conversion and 27's.
also it's a dual range awd box in it. there's like an eyelet looking tab on top of the box to switch between high and low, should be in high at the moment, whichever way you can push the tab (with it out of gear) will be low

Nah I'm not a hoon, Just unlucky. Got pulled into a rbt and defect station and they were going to town on everyone. They even defected a new hilux for led tail lights :/ I found the lever figured awd hi is fine for a brumby, there's no weight in it.
