Replace gen 2 lib gearbox with outback, but what gen outback is best?
So my gen 2 lib gearbox is failing me, loosing 4th and no low range. Been thinking about lifting it as well so I'm thinking it's time to bite the bullet and do the entire outback conversion, gearbox, diff, suspension and steering components.
The question is what is the best gen model outback to use as the donor?
I'm after a better low range set up then the lib and also something to suit bigger tyres.
Your recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

mate buy this car

I built it for a mate about 10 years ago and its got all the good gear in it.
Use lift kit / suspension / GT foz alloys / tyres on your car and part the rest out. You will probably get most of your money back selling it for parts on gumtree, ebay etc

Lift it and run the SF Forster gearbox as its already set up with the decent low range and larger tyres, even though they're a stock size (stock foz).
There's really no off the factory floor gearbox option in the outback/libertys. To get the best combo you need to either interchange parts from models that best suit your needs or go all out and mod stuff to work the way you want - gearboxes being one area many neglect to get the most out of. It's here where the biggest gains are to be made!
Cheers
