https://youtu.be/2i4ZIdJ6ovYCan anyone identify the metallic clunking noise coming from deep within the EJ25 donk fitted in my 1997 subaru outback, dohc. I have uploaded a video. I'm going to pull the motor out to get better access but though I would get a few opinions before I do. Engine has 211,000km, auto box, drained oil and its clean with no metal particles, no head gasket issues either

You need to make it viewable to the public

all I'm getting is "This video is private"

does it sound anything like this?

Not my video but it is an EJ25

Sounds like valve train IMO, but hopefully your right about belt tensioner or similar. If its original donk, 211000 kms odd dont seem like much unless its been abused or neglected by previous owners.

Was 1997 the year they went from hydraulic to solid lifters in the EJ series...

sounds like a valve train thing to me and not big or little ends. Any louder one bank than the other ?

I would be checking the timing belt idler sounds like it is flapping in the breeze.

If it isn't that, then one of the HLA's has turned into a solid. :)
