Anyone know a trick to removing a gugeon pin access plug from behind the water pump? We think this one has had a sealer applied to it. We've made tools to fit the hex pattern with 14mm bolt heads and nuts welded together to allow us to use a socket, it's worked on all the other plugs, including all four on two other engines.
We're chasing up an allen key to fit, think we have to order it in... so in the mean time i was wondering of a trick someone might know.

Go to repco and buy a 1/2" drive 14mm allen key socket. Life time warranty and a good tool. If you can't undo it with that then you are going to need some heat on it.

What Brett said, cept I've always found a rattle gun will move em. But Brett has done this waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more times than me too!

absolute bastard of a plug to get undone....until you scare it with a bit of a flame. 14mm hex is what I borrowed , rattle gun, maybe not with a borrowed hex. Saw one for 20 bucks at autopro recently, about 60mm long key, so you can break it and chop it i suppose

If you dont have access to some heat try taping it around a small bit with a centre punch you dont have to move it much and then the 14mm allen key will do the rest. If you havent been running coolant the plug may be rusted out

Thanks for everyone's input on this topic. The access plug was removed with the use of and allen socket as BYB-01 recommended. We had to use a pipe to extend our short breaker bar handle, and with a little effort it broke its seal and out it came. Turned out someone had used some sealer on it :s

Anyway, thanks again, now we can rebuild the engine.

It isnt uncommon to use some permatex on them when reinstalling them
