Straight cut gears

Any one know of a place in Brisbane that does straight cut gears for Subarus? I need to biuld a box that can take the 2.5. I have blown another freeking gearbox and it is starting to get very frustrating. This will be the 4th box in this car in 18 months and I want it to be the last this time round.

I remember seeing somewhere that MRT do a dog box with straight cut gears, they might let you buy just the gears, worth a shot.

I'm not sure about the bolt pattern on the 2.5, but there was a fella selling a PPG straight cut billet 1-4 with billet selector forks and all, maybe even straight cut 5th, can't quite remember..... $12500 gearbox he was selling it for $6500.

Make sure you use billet selectors or you will be doing it again. Thats what happened to Sams (the silver wrx) box. It was a modena box. Excellent quality if you don't mind waiting. You can get stronger helical cut gears. PPG seem to be ok.

Sydney's Middleton Rally Team offers a heavy-duty dog gearset to slot into the original WRX/RS housing. Retailing for AUS$6800 (plus GST and any necessary bearings), the package requires no modifications to fit, except Sti's require the 3rd/4th gear selector rod from a conventional WRX gearbox. Some later MYs may also require other small modifications. MRT presently offer the cluster in a choice of 5 ratio sets. These range from "super close" FIA-approved Group N rally gears to significantly taller road-racing gears. Note that the Group N ratios are designed to work with 4.1 or 4.4:1 STi diffs, while other ratios are available to cater for the normal 3.9:1 final drive.

Nice info but my understanding is MRT buy their sets elsewhere. Best to deal direct with the manufacturer me thinks.

As far as im aware this is an MRT product, that offers full 2-year guarantee against breakage (even under competition use). Dam good bang for buck if you ask me!

I am still in two minds as to which way to go. I am thinking about the gearbox rebuild/strengthen option or just bite the bullet and buy a 6 speed sti box.

I'd go the 6 speed, though what're you going to do when you start breaking it!:p
