Anyone ever seen one on a Subie engine?

Would one work on an EJ22?

The EJ's have such a deep ass sump and I want to mount one as low as possible in my jet boat.

What could be done- remote resovior perhaps?

Funnily enough someone raised this topic a while ago in relation to fitting an EJ to a helicopter . . . of course everyone just said "Oh no! We've never done that before, why would you want to when you can do this, this and this!"

I'm going to say that I've seen dry-sump EJs in several drag WRXs and it works well, I don't quite know exactly how they did it but I know they have.

However, what I have seen is an EJ22 in a VW bus that had about 40mm cut off the bottom of the sump, then a plate welded in place with a recessed drain plug. One day I'll do that to my EJ.

From memory the main issue every one had with the helicopter was the vertical mounting not the dry sumping.

Hey, when it comes to the "Hey, that's not practical" brigade I'm number one on the list!

All subaru engines are of dry sump design. All you need is a small collection pan and vacuum/pump to put it where you want and a clean supply of oil to the pickup port and you can put your sump anywhere. Warning, if your sump pump fails, your engine blows.

I was contemplating such a conversion as quoted above, but luckily I snapped out of that one ....LOL. But I did a fair bit of web trawling and VW board research.

The alternative was a reduced length sump but with side wings, like widened to get a decent capacity. Also the pickup tube and baffle had to be modified.

Cant see why this cant be done to a converted Subie?
