Gearlever mod for Full Time Box conversion?

I am aware there is a "small modification" that needs to be made to the gear lever when installing a Full Time 4WD box (not EJ) in an L Series. Can someone outline what it is? And confirm that it can be done after the box is in? Thanks

?????
Never did any mods to the lever to fit one in my car.
Where did you get this info that you needed to do a mod.
The only difference I had was that the 4wd/lo range lever only went into 2 positions (where 4wd high & low are) and not all the way down to the 2wd position.

I have heard a few ppl say this - and seen it on USMB. No-one mentioned exact details though. Something about the lever sits further back or forward.
No problems with the dual range lever though Steve? Since I have a lift kit - I am guessing high range will sit further down.

when mine went in...
had to shorten the peice that has an eye on one end and the plate for the ball on the bottom of the shifter on the other
not sure the length tho
just shortened it till the bottom of the shifter was vertical in neutral

Did you shorten it after you had the box in?

I had a lift kit too, but I've never done any lever mods associated with it (mainly because I've never had a part time 4wd box).
Personally, I'd just stick the thing in & see if it works. I reckon half the stuff on the USMB site is a load of steaming .....

that was for an unlifted L series Wagon fang
if you get the box in, put the linkages in and just measure the distance between where the hole on the rubber mount thing and the stud it goes on shorten the linkage to suit and weld back together

Thanks lads - I'll just wait and see. Sounds like if I need to make changes - they can be done whilst the box is in. Didn't fancy having to pull the b*stard out for linkage issues.

In my RX the gear selector rod had to be shortened to bring the gear lever back to the correct spot.
