FYI, enquiry to Lokka diffs

I made an online enquiry to the Lokka diff lock product:

Their reply for the R160 Subaru diff, is "Not at this stage, talk about this for the future".

I think this is a pretty impressive product, and with more enquires they may think about getting serious for this diff and Forester one etc.

Did you mention that it's the same diff as the front in a Datto 720?

Wondering if Detroit ever made a locker for one of them...

Yes I did MudRat, I replied that the later type diffs for Forster & Outback might be of interest. He replied he hasnt had much enquiry about those.

How much different are the later model diff centres and what type are they?

did my bit,sending enquiry...all you with L series do likewise please:)
the other one is interesting too..but there wide range only seems to cover larger diffs/vehicles, Toyots,LR etc

Paid deposit to 4wd systems nearly 10 years ago for 20 Lokka's. Never went ahead back then and money was sent back. Good luck nowadays. Convert to Lib/Foz box and put in a KAZ in the front and a tight RX diff in the rear. Turn 1 wheel on my WRX rally car and all 4 turn together.

Torsen (I think means torqe sensing) have no clutch or viscous material. They are a bunch of gears that always provide drive to both wheels, I'm pretty sure even when one wheel is off the ground, but they do have enough 'give' to allow sharp turns without hopping and binding like a locked (welded) diff.

Best way to describe a torsen is a geared LSD. It cannot provide positive lockup, but it doesn't wear out. I have one in the front of a Landcruiser ute.

I know what a Torsen is, I've seen several, but can anyone explain to me how they work?

Wonder if a Subaru one is available? And In Oz? Price would be $$ as they are imported from US of A.

I still think a Lokka is simpler and as effective in principle. Pity they are not available for Subaru.

Found this quote on a Aussie motorsport board:

"7/ 'Torsen' - designed for 4wd's (not AWD's), and popular as a front diff. Good diffs, and not many wearing parts, but susceptable to breaking the spiral gears. Not a popular diff in the back, as they are torque sensitive, and torque biasing, ie they move torque between the axles, and there fore not consistant feeling to drive on."

Now I guess they refer to a standard part time 4WD, so the front axel is not loaded unless engaged, sooooooo....... for our Subies a rear application would be ok? As this is part time rear wheel drive.

That sounds very good for offroad. I've already converted to an Outback box and I have an RX rear diff ready to go in...

How does the KAZZ affect the drivability onroad?
Have you done anything to your centre diff aswell?
