I recently put another EA82 in my bus. I have heard some guys rekon the EA81 was a better motor. I was told less oil leaks, less rattles and more power. Any thoughts??
Don't want to upgrade to anything bigger - rather put something in it that will bolt straight in.
I thought the EA81 was from the older models but was also told they were in the last of the brumby's. Did they come out for unleaded???
Any ideas appreciated

The 82s had more power than the 81s about 10kw i think as long as the seals are good in the 82 it wont leak and make sure if you are rebuilding the 82 that you service the oil pump if not replace it they arent expensive

I was thinking of getting another motor to rebuild in my spare time. Any idea of prices on seals/gaskets or overhaul kits for either motor?? I'm assuming the 82 would be more with the timing arangement.

The timing belts are about $30 a pair and a gasket kit around $250 with everything

EA81 or EA82
EJ
if you're considering the bother of converting to an EA81 engine into your EA82 car, then why not consider an EJ conversion?
food for thought.

resale value ? seeing a tin rocker cover in an L ?
all EA81's made for unleaded coz alloy heads needed hardened seats
