trying to remove the rear drivers side axle for the first time, and it does not want to come off. is there a trick to getting it off easier. i will grind down the diff stubb once i get the axle off. Any tips would be great. thanks

I usually undo the diff hanger and let it flop to one side.

If they have had a bit of offroad use and never been off you may need some heat and a large hammer you could try soaking in WD40 first then try before using heat

an FBH didn't budge mine, easiest solution was to replace diff and one was available. I gave up, and the workshop applied the heat method, only made it worse. But thinking about it now, cutting the DOJ off with a grinder may not be such a bad idea? It is very hard steel tho.

If you have decent heading head on your oxy it will only need a gentle tap tp get it off. I have seen some very stubborn ones too. YOu could always try and get the ones from the wheel end off and then remove the whole diff assembly and do it out of the car, it may seem like more work but it is easier swinging a big hammer out in the open as opposed to under a car. make sure you then use never sieze when re assembling so next time it all comes out easy.
