Rear diff.

Post by m.j.h » Fri Oct 13, 2006 3:04 pm

Hi

I think I remember eading somewhere on here that the rear diff in an L series is basically a R160 type like used in the nissans etc.

Now this had me wondering IF it would be possible to update them to an R180 or even an R200 as they have the LSD centres avalible.

Or is there an LSD option for the STD diff and if so where from?

Yes I know it could be welded but don't really want to go with that option at the moment.

Yes you can get LSD in a standard Rear Diff, I have one in my Brumby. If you keep an eye on the For Sale section they appear every now and then. They come out of a Turbo RX usually.

The RX L Series came out with a clutch type LSD - these are available for $400-$500 second hand. This is an R160 style diff. They are a direct replacement for the standard L diff.

I have heard of Datsun users hunting for these diffs as well in an effort to get LSD. Don't know about the inter-compatibility of R160, R180 and R200 diffs. I think there is a locker that is made for the R200 which would be more interesting than LSD.

or i think a 4WD Vortex
Toyota 105 Series LandCruiser (that nobody on here wants to really hear about).
RX Touring Wagon - fitted out for 4WDing (currently collecting dust).
RX Project - will be road only at this stage (and currently taking way to long to finish).
