Stripped Spark Plug

Just after some advice i have got an EJ22 in a liberty that now has a stripped sparkplug hole.
It literally blew the plug out under its own power.
Just looking to find out if anyone has had any luck with using a helicoil to repair such a problem or whether i would be better off looking for another head to put on it.

Any tips would be great

Cheers

i dont know if it'll help in this situation but there is some stuff u can buy to repair stripped threads. u like put the putty in the hole and the bolt thread and it like makes a new thread. dont know if it'll be resistant to high heats in the head tho and dont know how good it actually works. but yeh my 2c

Installing a helicoil is pretty easy and reliable way to fix the problem just make sure you get all the shavings out of the bore before starting the engine

Looks like a helicoil will be the first thing i try then.

The next question is can they be put in without taking the head off?
The plug seat is a long way in and how would you stop shaving going into the bore?

Cheers for you help guys

You'll have to vacuum out the shavings. Use a small hose that fits down the spark plug hole and fix it to the vacuum hose. Just make sure you do a good job of it.

If you could be bothered with the trauma of taking off the head and want the piece of mind that there's no shavings in the cylinder/chamber, go that way.
