Conversion from Auto Gearbox to Manual
Conversion from Auto Gearbox to Manual
I have an EA82T Engine in a L series sedan, with a standard EA82 Auto gearbox which (as per an earlier post is not happy with it's new engine) so instead of spending big dollars to get it upgraded I would rather convert to a manual gearbox, ideally an EA 82T manual gearbox would suit, however probably hard to get hold of in good condition. So what can anyone suggest to me as a good & reliable alternative. Any help most appreciated.
Thanks.

I believe there's an artilce in the the tech manual (or used to be) about how to make an adapter plate. It had step by step instructions.
Other wise there is someone on the forum that makes them for the EA box to EJ engine. I've heard you could reverse the pins to bolt an EA engine to EJ box... See what others reckon though.
Good luck with it all, keep your eyes out for an RX turbo box, might find one yet!

I think you would be throwing money away if you were going to convert to an EJ box and not converting the engine as well.
A manual EA82 AWD conversion will fulfill your needs. Once you've got the box the rest of the parts are easy to come by.

Monster Subaru sold to a good home!! Still a Subaru owner. Will try stay in the Ausubaru loop. Sorry

Thanks for that, can you please clarify, you are saying that a manual EA82 gearbox will be OK for an EA82T engine, are you saying the same for the auto gearbox, if so then maybe my gearbox just needs looking at for repairs. Althought it only has 97K on it.Subaman wrote:Mate any EA82 gearbox will be strong enough behind an EA82T, the turbos gearboxes were no different internally from the NA box apart from the crappy low range.
