either the search button hates me, or im the first to post this.

i was wondering what would be needed to convert my hubs to 5 stud? what do i need to change? is it even possible to do it without changing brakes? ive got 5-stud rims sitting around, and i like them. i want to see if i can get them onto my car.

any info would rock. cheers

liberty front struts complete and redrill the tops. rear is a custom setup (see brateegabah.)

I think you need imprezza front struts because the springs are narrower. Liberty ones will only fit in an unlifted L series.

It's the easiest way of doing it.

The mounting points are completly different, assuming you are talking about changing to the 5 stud liberty ones?

If the car gods were subaru fanatics they would of made all cars and models have parts that were interchangeable with out modification

hubs

The brake hub isnt interchangeable with anything that we know about.
You can have the hubs redrilled to 114 Cameron or Seagull will help you there if you ask them.
Seagull says also that you can get a ford standard 5 stud pattern drilled on those hubs.
Other optins are you can redrill the hubs to take a 6 stud pattern to take some of the bigger 4wd rims.
You can use liberty or impresa front strut assemblys to change the front to 5 stud and you can use XT6 rears or theres a conversion kit to do the backs.

I have a spare set of 4 x 114.3's for the fronts for sale - my cost, done professionally

I went with the crossbred kit in the end instead

I seem to remember categorically debunking that one. Theres no way it will work without severely compromising safety.

KERAZY: I have seen both 4x100 and 4x114.3 redrills done on Subaru hubs before, but not having done them myself I can't offer any advice as to which is better, except to say that these are the best two 4 stud options.
6X140 works well by the looks of it too.

so I could probably find someone to redrill my hubs so they can fit 4x100 rims? that what you're saying?

Yes, it can be done as I have seen it more than once. I don't know the nitty gritty of it though, at a guess I'd say the rear of the hub would need to be faced around the 4x100 holes to allow the studs to seat properly. The stud holes would have to be drilled 45 degrees out from the 4x90 stud holess that mount the hub to the disc on the front.
If possible I'd get the old 4x140 holes welded up (hub has to be pre-heated to prevent cracking) although some people argue heavily against this.

Original hub material is 4041 alloy so I have been told, so if getting the holes welded, this info needs to be known.

The engineer I was oing through stated that It would be legal on 2 conditions
1 if the holes were welded and a certified procedure by an engineering shop for 4041
2 That the backs of the hubs not be modified in any way from original and flanges, fillets and structural surfaces be left in tact.

These hubs cost me $50 , and the welding quote, another $40.
An engineering certificate of $120 for all that I had done on the one vehicle, if I supplied all paperwork supporting documents.

As the rears also needed doing - and the car was going to be off the road while this was all being done, It was put into the to hard basket.

I believe drums can also be legaly re drilled, but I don't know the procedure. Someone mentioned at one stage that an engineer wanted some extra reinforcing to compensate for the crap material that drums are made from.
