is it possible to change a push button 4wd 5sp d/r to lever/manual action? can i just change the extention housing off my 4sp and bolt it up to the l box? or will i have to get a extention housing off an L box?
i may be getting an L wagon thats push button and i want to but the box in my brumby to replace the 4sp d/r.
this being said if its not possible to change easly how hard is it to fit all the nessarys to put the push button in my ute???

thanks,
Ian

Hey TurtlesBrumby,

I think the push button L series 4wd box your talking about is a single range. I'm 99% sure that only single range boxes came with push button unless someone has played around with the box.

If it is dual range, best to get the extension housing off the back of another L series with all the linkages as this will save the hasles of trying to see if the EA81 d/r extesion housing will fit (i don't think it will but that said, i've never seen the EA81 box).

If your happy with push button (4wd activated with some solinoids that - I think - use the engine's vacuum), it shouldn't be too hard to fit, just need bolt holes for the solinoids and some wiring to the dash and hook up the button on your gearstick (i'm sure that's where the 4wd button is -> on top of the gearstick knob)

The diaphram that activates the 4wd lever may need clearance or you could jimmy up your own leaver to shifter arrangement to select 4wd...

Hope this all helps.

I think I have seen one of these with a vacuum thingy on it near upper right hand rear of box....and I don't think there is room in a brumby tunnel for this

my observation anyway..untrained
