EJ22 fuel pipes?

I am about to hook up the fuel system (EJ into MY) and need to know what the pipes on the engine are.

On the LHS of the motor there are 3 pipes: I am guessing that top is Fuel IN, middle is RETURN, bottom is ????.

On the RHS of the motor there are 2 pipes: The top is ????, the bottom one looks like a vacuum line ????

Is the Carbon Canister still used in change to EFI ? I guess it is in order to draw fumes from tank?

Any help much appreciated.

Also trying to work out the MY fuel system, in particular the fuel metering for the electronic dash so that it still works with EFI system fitted.

The fuel filter under the bonnet (Z428 has) 3 ports (2 large and 1 small). It appears that there is fuel IN (from the tank), OUT (to the motor), and then, a smaller line that looks like a RETURN from the motor. The RETURN? line tees off before the filter and the other branch goes thru the firewall, and presumeably, to a metering device in the dash.

I am also presuming that fuel IN is metered somewhere near the tank? and the electronics calculate the difference and display the fuel consumption/distance to empty.

Is this right?

Answering your first post, you are right. Top is fuel in, second is return line third is purge from the tank. Divers side both go to the charcoal canister.

You are privilaged to have a digital dash that works!
AFAIK The 'distance to empty' is based mainly on the fuel gauge and odom, most likely taking speed, rpm and possibly temp into a hard 'wired' equation.
Fuel consumption is definatly not directly measured in the MY. The branch that goes through the firewall is the return line to the fuel tank.

It could be possible to read through diag port or intercept the injector timing and a few other variables, a little electronic trickery, and still have 'distance to empty' work on original display. Lot of work for small feature.
But whatever flicks your switch I guess.

Interestingly, the lib charcoal canister slots right into bracket at the front of the windscreen washer bottle. Might be able to work something out here.

Thanks, that is reassuring but raises another question. If there is already a fuel return line, why is it said in other threads that one has to be installed when doing the efi swap?

This is a standard N/A EJ22 I am putting in so big flows shouldnt be necessary ???

Because the standard return line in the my isnt big enough, I just ran another fuel line exactly the samer as the feed line back to the tank along the same path as the feed line.
