Does anyone have any experiences with using a K&N filter? I've been advised that fitting one to my Outback (EJ25) would be more economical in the long term and improve airflow. I don't know anything about K&N except that they're supposed to last a long time and they cost around $110 each.

This is what it's supposed to look like from the box. Info I found says that the correct size for my model Outback (MY99) is 33-2154.

Apparently inside the K&N packaging is this Gucci looking sticker which is supposed to remind people not to throw the K&N filter away.

Any info would be appreciated.

They flow better and give better response. Cleaning and reoiling is a lengthy process. I've used them, but prefer the oiled foam type as servicing is easier. Check out the O2 rush or Unifilter products.

i reckon theyre awesome. even when my pod hasnt been cleaned n oiled for ages- which is easy to do- it still traps loads of fine sand and stuff. and yeh u save money by never having to get another filter.

the oiled foam type aka Unifilter didn't last a very long time, and you have to be delicate with cleaning them, and easily leave a mess if over oiled.
Have the K&N now, much happier with it,i bet it will last "forever", The K&N filter is supported in a grid, much more robust for cleaning, even if it does take a lil time - but its only like once a year anyway. They all save on chasing paper filters.........

K&Ns are good hey just as long as you maintain them they will last foreva hey good air cleaners.....they pay for em selfs in the long run cause you dont have to replace as often...

Thanks for the replies. What's the best way to clean and re-oil a K&N filter?

with proper k&N cleaner and oil.....you should be able to get it were you get the filter from

Just remember not to use too much oil as residue on the AFM wires will give you head aches.

Dave, thanks for the tip. I'll keep it in mind, but I usually listen to CD's while driving.

AFM = Air Flow Meter
AM/FM is the radio
