Turbos?

I was just wondering, how does the turbos of a twinturbo ej20 (vf13 or vf14) compare in size to the Vf4 found on the ea82t motors?

(edit) I have found that the primary turbo (i assume the vf13) provides bost up until about 4 - 4.5K at boost pressure of about 12psi. And then the 2nd one come on and helps in the upper revs.

My reason for questioning is,... if you fitted this smaller turbo to a ea82t, would you get more power down low, lower turbo lag ect, at sacrifice to power above 4.5K (possiably slightly higher because it is only 1.8l)
A cam regrind to move the powerband lower might help take advantage of this.

I could also be off on a total tangent.

Ideas and comments welcome

Cheers

It is my understanding that a VF10 makes for a good replacement on the 82T.
Note that i have not done this though.

What is your desired outcome? May help in provide info.

Being smaller, and designed as a primary turbo, i thought it mite spool up a lot quicker than the vf4.

but i have not yet looked at plumbing, how it fits ect.

It was just a thought:p

So the td035 is smaller than a td04, does it bolt up the same?

i have a vf13 primary .. and a 14 secondary .. (i believe the secondary is slightly bigger than the primary) sitting around spare. They actually look physically bigger than the standard ea82t. but i have no idea about flow. On my b4 which runs newer turbos but same sizing as 13/14 i can easily get 18psi at 4500rpm at which point it switches to twin turbo. Its not running out of puff just yet though so it may work out pretty good for a 1.8lt.

I have one such TD035 in waiting, to adapt it some mods will need to be done, like new exhaust flange plates welded to suit different stud pattern, compressor inlet is not curved like VF4 and outlet can be spun in housing to suit. Not sure, but tubing for oil and water look to be simple enough, but will require new lines to fit. To get the air inlet tubing to fit nicely, when I put my lift kit in, the engine will drop and if I keep the turbo up at the original height, the inlet tubing will clear the injectors etc. The next prob is that the exhausts will all have to be lengthend to meet the turbo at that height.

I will have to get the intercooler fitted also, then really to get the most out of going to this setup, a programable ECU is better. (Add more dollars here).

Brett comment in an earlier post that it should perform with more overall power midrange and a bit more to top end. Rev range is similar to original, so should cut in early enough for offroad and allround power.
