EJ <-> EA Clutch Plates, interesting discovery?

I have just been playing with my tourer for the first time in far too long and discovered something interesting...

The 9 inch clutch plate from my L series 5 speed slid straight onto the input shaft on my EJ 5 speed AWD (Came with an EJ22 from a Gen1 or 2 Liberty) and I could also easily slide the EJ 9 inch clutch plate onto the L series 5 speed, both seemed like a perfect fit.

On the other hand the 8 inch clutch plate from the EJ18 FWD, like the gearbox, was no good for anything ;)

This discovery doesn't really help me at all as I'm going all EJ but I just thought this might be somehow useful to all the EJ->EA box conversions, though I would imagine you'd probably need to go with a thinner adaptor plate and I have no idea what you would do for the starter motor.

Yes, this has been discussed elsewhere.

The problem is that the plate won't line up with an EA gearbox when on an EJ flywheel. So unfortunately it doesn't offer any help to EJ conversions.

Well in that case I take almost all of it back, the FWD is still useless though.

Would this piece of info be any use for someone (like me) who will soon be replacing a clutch plate in a standard EA setup, or would i be best off to just get the original spec clutch plate. Would there be a price difference?

And when i say clutch plate i mean not the pressure plate, the gearbox shaft disc.

Cheers

I don't think there would be any benefit, the clutch plates or more or less identical, although from the supplier I have trade price access to the EA82 kit is about $200ish and the EJ22 kit is $300-350ish, my guess is the difference is in the pressure plate but that'd be no use to you on an EA engine.
