03 forester gearbox into 95 lib?

Post by nicklib » Sun Mar 04, 2007 4:21 pm

Gday all
I have just purchased a 95 lib GX that needs a little gearbox attention (rear or front bearing i think). i was going to get the old box operated on but have come across a 2003 forester gearbox (previously coupled to a 2.5) that has done only 45000kms and thought this may be a better way to go.
Does anyone know if this will bolt onto the EJ22 and if not what mods are required? Also could you advise if the diff ratios (3.9, 4.11 etc) are the same between these two models, and last but not least does the forester have a lower low range ratio than the 2nd gen Libs.
Thanks in advance...

I'm 90% certain the box will bolt up to your EJ22, the low range will be more or less the same, but the final drive ratio will most likely be lower, probably a 4.11, best bet would be to get the matching diff while your at it, to check for sure remove the drain plug and count the number of teeth on the gear dirrectly inside the opening, 37 teeth=3.7, 39 teeth=3.9 and so on and so forth.

I was looking at that too, that box has a hydraulic clutch on it from the look of the photos, you would probably need the clucth pedal assmebly, clutch master cylinder and line to the box.

8 (or whatever they are) bolt boxes bolt straight up to 4 bolt engines don't they?? Unsure if the rear mounts would be the same.
