What oil do you use?

Hey,
Possibly a very simple question... but i'm just curious what sort of engine oil people are using in older model subies?
For example my '89 brumby with almost 250000km on it.

Can the oil you use have any effect on performance?

Appreciate any words of wisdom (whether actually wise or not) ;)
Tommo.

I use a 5 - 30 fully sinthetic castrol R at the moment because of noisy tappetts. does seem to make a difference over the 15-40 i was using.. I also notice that engine seems rev a liitle more freely and runs slightly cooler???? cant really explain why except the oil ia as good as they say!!! wanna be for $49.95 i paid for it.

after stripping down an engine with 70,000 miles on it, wash components to find no black runoff on white concrete, not a sign of dirty internals...I am with John Laws on this one for 24 years -Valvoline XLD and their 15W40 Diesel oil will go in Project Cheap Grief

hell my dad had a 50 model hudson with a wet cork clutch and it used to shuder on hill starts. then he put a bardal additive in it stoped any nonsence.
its a bit like what radiator treatment to use. or what petrol, smokes or cars u name it . each to there own im not nocking anyone

I accidently put LSX90 into a gearbox once and found it made the box smoother in shifting. Your results may vary should you try it but i was pleased with the results. The gearbox had only 68000kms on it

EJ22 with 184000km - I use Castrol Magnatec, I think it is 10W40. Have used it in past 3 Subarus and seems to help with noisy tappets* - at least for the first 5-8000km after a change, had tried Shell Helix of same rating and it tapped from oil change.

* there are a multitude of things that may help of worsen the tappet noise.
