ej20g, ej22 heads?

hey fellas, i have a brumby with an ea82t and tdo4. im getting a little bored with this its already at 15psi and i want more grunt. i have a ej20g from a liberty with slight valve damage due to someone stuffing up the valve timing a little. also have a very tired ej22 sitting around. bottom end of the ej20 is very healthy.
what i need to know is, will the 22 heads fit on the 20? id like to do this as i dont want to mod the rails. if they do fit, will the 20g exhaust manifold bolt up to the 22 heads?
finally, does anyone out there make an adapter to mate the ej20 block to the ea82 dr 5speed that i already have in the car?
thanks in advance.

if you have an ea82t in the brumby the chassis rails would ave already been modded
and the heads im not sure bout

i fitted the engine, the rails dont need to be cut at all, just a slight massage with a hammer, it fitted ok, just didnt have the clearance i wanted,

lol. cracks me up how someone will tell you your car has cut chassis rails. for the millionth time - you dont have to cut the rails if you dont have a lift kit!!!

Yes there are a few people that make the adapters but you will very quickly destroy the gearbox behind an ej20g, not to mention rediculous amounts of FWD wheel spin.
While you're at it go the whole hog and get good EJ box in there.

andrewt's mate warren has an EJ20G behind an L series box, and its been there for many years and still goes hard...although the box does have a wine to it
and yes...wheelspin is your friend

yes, his gearbox still works but its very much on it's last legs. sounds like you are driving in reverse in every gear except louder.
Oversteer's old L series had this setup aswell, it ended up with a twisted chassis! (from all the power combined with mega EA-car torque steer)

Bollocks to the front wheel drive.
Go the all 4 and put those SOHC heads on that Ej20 bottom end.
That is what I have just done.
Its LEGO!
Gaskets, pipework, holes, flywheel, brackets, it all swaps!
I have heads from a 1993 lib on a 1996 wrx bottom end.
Give it a go.

would an EJ20G bottom end with EJ22 heads be any narrower in relation to the engine? i.e. would it clear stock MY rails?

I think it probably would. But it's much easier to cut the rails.

Not when Rego and engineers are involved.
The SOHC EJ will fit, I have 17 and 25mm clearance to the rails, the spark plug arrangment is more friendly too.
Even with a frame rail cut....how do you change your plugs Andrew?
The DOHC heads are 40mm wider.

andrews L series has heaps of room to change plugs in his engine bay,...L series is wider then MY's and brumby's, i have more trouble in my liberty changing plug then he has

I don't rekon engineers would have a problem with it, it's not even a structural mod.
Rego they probably wouldn't even notice it if its done neat enough.
My car is an L series. With the engine crossmember dropped 3 inches due to my (tiny)lift kit I can remove the RS coils and spark plugs easily from underneath without moving the motor or anything.
If it was in an MY and difficult to get to I suppose the engine could be raised abit to do the spark plugs. Either that or put in those really spiffy ones that claim to last for 100,000kms. Then just pull the motor and do them at the same time as your timing belt
Thats what I'd do anyways. I'd rather avoid messing around swapping engine heads and ultimately downgrading the motor.
