page 87 of tech manual shows it. Mine has broken outlet for vacume hose just wondering if there woud be any consequences in blocking the hose(s) off? ie crap idle or anything
cheers,

Have seen many blocked off and not in use, the solonoid has a bad habit of burning out too. What it does is on the EA82 is allow vacuum to open the vent of the charcoal canister to vent the excess vapour form the tank into the engine during back off. On and EJ it allows the vapour to enter the manifold on back off. The EJ charcoal canister is a different setup to the EA one so they do the same job but work slightly different.

Thanks for info SWK
I have another but its also broken! So is there any downside to blocking both hoses off? Only one outlet is broken on the valve (from the vac line that meets the boost indicator switch) so if I block that hose off there should be no vac leak when the solenoid is actuated..... ? so the other outlet which joins one of the metal lines directly above it just goes to the charcoal cannister and has no vac?.. sorry but my mind is all over the place on this one

Yeah what you said. If you get error codes thrown at you, you will need to give the terminal load so either have the surge solonoid left plugged in or put a 50ohm resistor across the terminals.

I'm using one from a later 4 plug engine as mine was plugged when I bought it . The later one doesnt fit properly and you have to pull the spade fittings from the plastic plug and change to the original .
I get the feeling that the plastic bit that sticks out is some form of filter and is fragile and gets broken when people try to work around the MPFI manifold/rails etc . For me its just about become a given that to do anything in this area the cast aluminium "Turbo" crossover duct has to be removed with its maddening 10mm bolt on the back of it (10 hex) .
I found that a worthwhile experiment to try on EFI cars with this surging problem is to release the pressure in the tank from the fuel filler cap , I drove a few Km with the filler cap backed off a little to see it anything felt different with mixed results . I'm suspicious that some of my problem involves the evaporative emissions equipment and the odd gurgle gurgle pause , gurgle gurgle pause from the fuel tank makes me think somethings not as it should be .
From my 87 4 plug manual is seems the EA82 Turbo engine had an auxilary evaporative emissions return that the N/A's didn't get and I need to look a little deeper at how they got around preventing tank pressurisation under boost etc .
Cheers A .

yeah my tank pressurises too! So this isnt normal? It doesnt seem to have any obvious consequences on my car so I havnt been worried about it. I just screw off the cap occassionally.

All my EFi cars pressurise the fual tank after a drive, i think its just the time you stop the engine weather or not the purge has done its job or not
