hey every1 i have only recently bought a 92 sports wagon but i crashed it about a month ago. engine and everything else is fine apart from the body and i cant afford to fix it but i want to put my engine and gearbox in a subaru brumby and im not sure if it possible so i was hoping that sum1 could help me out because i dont have a clue lol thanx

but if u got an Lseries with an EA82 then trying to put it in a brumby can be hard if u dont no wt ur doin ive gathered

i live at like the bottom of SA and have like full use of my mates dads work shop but i just need to know wat i need like do i need conversion plates for the tail shaft and so on and so on

start off with specs of both cars
the damaged one being a EA82 Lseries is it DR even manual single range or wt
the brumby - EA81 id think DR 4speed maybe
right?? or wrong

to get an EA82 into the brumby requires chassis rail mods for the engien to fit in nicely
which gbox do u want to mate with it (id think the 5speed DR if thats wt u got in the Lseries)

well my wagon is a 5 speed EA82 as u guessed and the brumby that i wanna put it into was a 4 speed but doesnt have engine or gear box and more so i need to use my gearbox btw im not very mechanicaly gifted lol

This has been discussed many times the general opinion is that the power gain to from the required effort is not worth it for an ea82. here is a recent discussion about it showthread.php?t=6511&highlight=ea82+brumby

thanks for that i think i might not try that lol wat do u reakon i could get for my EA82 and my gearbox??

some say it needs chassis mods others say if its at std height (no lift kit) it doesnt need chasis mod n will fit with slight trim i am yet to find out 4 my self so i cant b 100%

but i have deffently seen a thread on here where some guys did get the ea82 into the brumby with out modin the chassis

I am gonna eventually fit an EA82T in a Brumby of std height and not expecting to mod chassis rails. I have seen a Brumby with same and it has 6mm clearance of the un modded rails.
It will all fit - JUST DO IT! a deciding factor is are you gonna keep std height ?

The pedal box needs an easy mod to take the L series crutch cable, I used 6mm 40mm flat bar to fit the L series 2 piece tailshaft centre bearing. If Brumby has no motor , no box , your intended conversion WILL be a hell of an improvement on its current situation - and yours and will be worth it. Don't forget the beer for your mates dad

yeah the brumby is of std hieght and yeah i think im just going to try and do it becuase im getting the brumby for free and if i cant do it well **** happens

just one more thing to bolt the gearbox up to the tail shaft do i need a conversion plate

You wanna use a tailshaft from an "L" series, it is the right length, and bolts up at both ends, only thing you gotta do is bolt the center bearing to the floor of the brumby.

Atta boy, this looks like the photo (or one of them) that instilled confidence in my conversion. I used a builders string-line from centre of gearbox to centre of diff to guide me where the tailshaft should centre at the bearing position. Up top the bolts come out just behind front seat mount location.
