Unleaded petrol

Hi all, Now that I have bought a Leone '84 GLF (EA81 Carby engine) the Australian Institute of Petroleum states that you can use either ULP or PULP without an additive , has anyone had problems filling up without the additive.My EA82T runs solely on PULP.

i run mine on pulp with no additive

alloy head engines don't need it anyway

yer same i got EA81 carb and only run on PULP with no additives
been running fine ever since i got it
previous owner used no additives aswell
use to run on ULP but that sucked with the runon so now only PULP

84 ea81 carby - ran 99% of the time on ULP until recently, but in the past i always mixed it up anyway. You can safely run on non-premium unleaded but throw in a tank of good stuff every now and then, or if you're going away on hols etc, eg PULP or optimax/ultimate/vortexgold

only just started using either PULP or ULP + additive recently, mainly because i just want to be nicer to my car. Certainly never appeared to need it.

Should I have anything done to the timing or tuning of an EA82 carby motor when going from standard ULP to PULP?

Been thinking it might be better for power increase, but wasn't sure what it might do to the motor. I am getting it tuned on Tuesday before shooting across to Yorke Peninsula for some fishing, so if it wont hurt it at all, might throw in PULP.

Also got my brakes serviced, now the car stops nicely, but two days after getting them done, the car is making an awful racket from the right rear wheel, getting it looked at on Tuesday but guessing it is either something come loose from the drum brakes when they were serviced or maybe the wheel bearing tightened too much during the brake servicing.

It makes no noise when I turn right, but when I turn left it sounds like the wheel is going to fall off! The rest of the time it is unbearably noisy, so something must be about to die now - just glad it happened before I left, not after....

i'm sure if you're a stickler for specifics you could get a better run if you tuned your engine to suit a particular petrol... but in terms of just 'will it run ok', assuming an ea82 is not a great deal different to an ea81 - i have run my car on every brand and type of petrol on the market (including a few dodgy batches that made the poor girl cough like 20-packs-a-day til she chewed through enough to dilute the rest with better) and the subaru will always get you where you need to go.

timing you can increase it if you want for premium 95 octane you would probley get away with 10deg advance without it pinging dont know if the temperature in summer would affect that someone in SA would know more

i switched to bp ultimate 98octane and get away with 15deg advance but it will ping if i have to use premium

did notice increase in power but i put iridium plugs in at the same time gapped to 1.2mm and a gt40t coil for a bit more spark

this was on an ea81 but ea82 specs should be much the same
someone correct me if im wrong

tune should be much the same as long as it was correct in the first place

Big gaps will push the ignition system so make sure the leads don't touch each other or anything metalic .

All aluminium heads have steel or brass type seats and the Japanese have had unleaded fuel much longer than we have . ULP not an issue .

My personal finding is that the Shell V Power (not the VP racing 100 octane) works better in my RX and the R33 Skyline than Ultimate 98 . Don't know why but I suspect it runs slightly better with todays lean tuned engines .
