Is it smokey? Does it have low compression?
There is a couple of options -

1) Find another EA82 MPFI engine from wreckers and put it in (hint - to make price cheaper is to remove manifolds & wires - normally would be for Pick-a-Part style wreckers - 2nd Hand engine from PaP wreckers is approx $120 or $180 full complete engine)

2) if you can't find EA82 MPFI - Find another EA82 carby - change the heads over and make it suitable for MPFI upgrade - recon the heads new valve seams etc.

3) Professionally rebuild your engine - approx $1600-$2000

4) Backyard rebuild your engine - approx $450 - $1000 depends what parts and how cheap they are.

5) For more power - choose EJ22 upgrade from Liberty. You'll need adapter plate, again EJ22 engines are starting to hit wreckers for same price above $120 - $180 but you'll need wire loom & computer.

If it was me, I'd choose EJ22 option.

Cheers
