i think the old L series clutch may have had its day, when i put my foot down sometimes it just revs with not a lot of forward movement, only really when i'm moving along but seems to feel like the clutch is half in almost slipping?

time for a new clutch by the sounds. It will only get worse alot quicker from now on. Try not to slip it. Look around for some quotes, or do it yourself!

well i had it serviced approx 5 months ago and was told that it was slipping but now its got worse, what sort of figure are we looking at for fitting of a 2nd hand clutch?

Be carefull not to drive it too much as you can cause damage the flywheel and require machining.
I wouldnt bother with a 2nd hand clutch, there sorta like break pads and bed into their surroundings, and the amount of work to replace it again isnt worth it.
My clutch cost me around 220 maybe 240 cant really remember, not sure about labor had a friend do it for us I gave him a hundred and slab of jimmies.

Clutches can be found on ebay and they're OKAYish... the price & quaility is what you get!... I'd go for PBR clutches.. I don't know how much for L series.
Shop around for one. Oh for Liberty one is $350 PBR brand.
Cheers

Hi Mate,
There is a brake and clutch place out by the brickworks market. It is in a cluster of shops on the north side of Ashwin Parade (off South road) next door to a little take-away place or deli... Think it is called Kent Brake and Clutch.
They have been really helpful for my problems in the past and stock a pretty massive range of clutches on site so no waiting for orders. I got a clutch kit for a classic Renault off them including pressure plate, clutch plate and thrust bearing for $125!!!!
Hope this helps.

Full clutch kit for an EA81 cost me $210 from the local auto store.
Clutches can be hard to get aligned and it makes it hard to put the engine back on the gearbox if it isn't perfect. But I suggest doing it yourself anyway as it is so much cheaper. If you don't have an engine crane you can hoist the engine up using the beam of a carport or garage.. It only weights in at about 95kg.

in terms of going about the removal and rebuilding, what have people done lifted the engine or dropped the gearbox?

I find lifting the engine is a lot easier.

thought youd have a spare input shaft from one of your gboxes to line it up phizinza i cut a legacy tt box one up to make myself one
dont worry the gbox had first gear blown off it by some ricer before i got to it

Dropped it, haven't lifted an engine before. Only issues with dropping is make sure everything is clean (mud does and will always drop onto you) apart from that, don't get stuck under it and you should enjoy the wonders of gravity.
..until you have to put it back in.

Yeh input shaft from a dead gearbox makes a good alignment tool for clutch installation. Also some clutch manufacturers treat the pressure plates with a glue-like protective coat. Can make the clutch feel like it is slipping and confuse you when you try to adjust it over the first week, so try to get it off with a non-oil based degreaser like a citrus degreaser.
There is a poll somewhere on whether to pull the motor or drop the gearbox so check that out for opinion, but I would drop the box using a trolley jack.

depends id say
do u have Turbo, Psteering, or Aircon??
they all add mroe clutter in the engine bay and need to be moved when removing a motor
if u have none of them then and also access to an Engine hoist then id say go the Engine route shuld be easier.
if not then just get some mates round to ehlp u manauver the box around thats pretty easy to.
and the EA82 is harder to just remove than an EA81 isnt it?
