EA and EJ Gearbox Mods

Ive read that the complete gearsets from the EJ 5sp gearbox can be placed in the EA 5sp casing (along with the EJ transfer casing) to give the EA 5sp a viscous centre diff.
WRX centre diff - into L series box?
EJ AWD into EA 4wd gearbox
Transmission lab: Lab ingredients/forumula FOUND!
Ive also read that the front diff in the EA 5sp is the same part number as the front diff of the EJ 5sp which means that a LSD from an STI or an aftermarket manufacturer will fit the EA 5sp.
Front diff interchangeability: The true answer
So.... how many of you have tried this? And got it to work?
I have a spare EA 5sp DR and was thinking of buying a EJ 5sp (unsure if i will need a DR or SR as Dual Range are more expencive from the wreckers)
I have not yet pulled a gearbox apart but i wanna learn.
Any words of wisdom are much appreciated

This is something im also interested in.Here in the states we only got 3:90 ratio ea dual ranges but the outbacks have 4:11.Im trying to find someone who knows if i can put a 4:11 front pinion shaft in an ea d/r since the carrier fits already and then the rear is easy

No you can't, otherwise it well and truly would have ben done by now...
There is a 4.11 EJ part time box though, so you would be able to use the whole set in the EA casing.
The pinion is intergral to the driven shaft in the box, not a keyed, removable, item.

if someone has a 4.11 and 4.44 out of the box and can get an accurate measurement within 1/4 mm or better
ill do a comparo and find out
need a shaft diameter and diameter of the two surfaces the roller bearings run on at each end
if u want 4.11 u will need to use liberty gearsets and center diff (if it measures up right)

Most Ej pinions are interchangable, I belive some of the qld lads have been running 4.44's in ej dr box's for quite some time.
The front diff centres are the same, so there's no reason why any aftermarket front lsd for a wrx could not drop right in. Provided your willing to spend the $$$.
Also the ej crownwheel is physically slightly larger. (so a 3.9 ea cw is not the same as a 3.9 ej cw) Fortunatly they are interchangable so no real issues here if your splicing bits.
You will need a dual range liberty box, keep an eye out on
RSLC for turbo conversion leftovers, they usually go fairly cheap.

Ive been watching RSLC but most of their boxes are either FWD, broken 2nd gear or over $1000
