If it sounds like a big end it generally is. It will more than likely be number 4 big end if thats what it is. Just do a check around the engine to make sure you havent picked up something by driving over it and also check to see the it isnt an idler roller in the cam belt area.

If its thrown a rod the crank journal may be in need of serious work but i would check really well so see if it hasnt tried to poke out through the block. I knows that if you really want to know the engine in your car you should always fix the engine that you have but you may find it a cheaper and more convienient alternative to just put in a second hand engine from a wreckers and then if need be rebuild your original motor. That way should you want to you can put in the best bits your money can buy

OK guys..the engine is apart and all diagnosed

lot less damage then origionally thought

2 x big end bearings are ****ed
2 x little end bearings are ****ed

due to this small issue the engine appeared to be totalled :P

SO where do we go from here??

ill put up a rebuild thread tomrow from start to finish and im gonna start the massive rebuild i hgave ahead of me

im prolly gonna go forged internals every seal the works....refresh the whole engine and give it a good life expectancy from here on end

tomrrow ill put up the start....and pics of the tear down and damaged parts

Are the damaged bearings at the same end of the motor, ie: 1 & 2 (or 3 & 4)?
Maybe an oil supply issue?
Regards

Gary ;)

nup the big ends where 2 and 4 and little ends where 3 and 4...it was possibly an oil issue but highly doubtfull

How bullet proof do you want it? I can give you a contact, although it is here in Qld, to make the block the same as my 2.5. Capable of 25psi all day every day. Diesel liners, closed deck, forgies, tension bore etc. Cost me $2500 just for the block and bottom end plus another $900 for pistons.
