engines out

finally got my engine out it only took 35 minutes from go to whoa (with a little help from my mechanic friend)

ive bought two nice new head gaskets
a set of rings and all the other orings and gaskets etc etc

will post up some pics later on in the week of the breakdown and rebuild if anyone is interested

WELL WELL WELL
GOT THE ENGINE IN PIECES AT LUNCH TIME TODAY HEADS ARE OFF AND FOUND NOT WHAT I EXPECTED -- THE WATER JACKET HAS NEARLY ROTTED THRU TO THE BORE ON TWO CYLINDERS --- I FORGOT THE CORD FOR THE CAMERA TODAY SO I CANT POST THE PICS I TOOK TIL TOMOZ :-) I TOOK LOTS THO SO WATCH THIS SPACE LOL

Ouch, that sounds nasty. Have you been using coolant properly?

Yep Fully And Properly Serviced Since I Had It 60 000 Klm Ago Now Has 385 000 On The Clock
Cavitation Seems To Be The Cause Ill Post Pics

Any One Think Its Worth Putting Back Together?????? Or Am I In The Hunt For A Turbo Motor :-) :-)

still trying to get my head around it myself but as far as i can gather (and ive been asking alot of questions) the coolant was PROBABLY not used correctly and water was used at some stage or other and water which is heavy with minerals ie bore water conducts electricity now not sure which way round it goes but the water is positive charged and the engine block is negative so from my schoolboy chemistry(which i failed) the engine block gets eaten away by electrolysis....
anyone want to add or show that im totally wrong- im up for more information and answers--- this is what i think anyways---

foot note ---- the hole is deeper than the pic shows i reckon it only has about .020" til it goes thru to the bore

Bummer when things go bad like that!! Just wondering what were your symptoms that prompted the rebuild? I have 315,000 on mine and is chewing some water, is that what you had? best of luck

just had a real strange o' heating problem it was real intermittant and if it did it it would spew all coolant out o'flow bottle i didnt seem to matter what the circumstances where ie off road in the sand or on the bitumen

I had some time off the road :(
so i thought id have a look... i was prepared for everything except for this :mad:

am in the middle of rebuilding an ej 22 now from the block up. will post up when done just too busy atm :rolleyes:

Okay Guys And Girls Ive Got A Second Hand Ej22 Block In Good Condition (for Free :d) Gunna Put All My Bits Into This Block And Bolt My Original Heads On

Any Body Care To Point Out Anything To Watch Out For When Putting It All Together?

camera is being bad atm but ill post up gaskets and seals etc that im replacing... pistons and heads are getting cleaned up now im hoping to have them back tomoro so i can get stuck into it all on the weekend ...
