my Leone is in a bad way i love him very much but i think his auto has had it it keeps slipping I'm 19 and only new the Subaru world but im already here for life if anyone can spare some time to help work out whats going on im sure i could shout u a beer or some thing

is the leone 4wd or 2wd

Welcome Couple of question first... What year is your Leone? Is it 2WD or 4WD? Has it had any work done to the Tranny since you have owned it? and last 1... How hard do you drive your car? (be honest as believe it or not, it makes a difference)

I think the 2wd / 4wd question is definitely a valid one - the 4x4 auto box is quite different to the 2wd one.
As for the location one, 90brumby may have just not noticed his info said location was victoria. Not really an offensive question considering if the answer was Perth 90Brumby would no doubt have offered to help in person!

Now for my suggestions

You may want to check the transmission fluid level with the dipstick. Autos work on oil pressure, if the oil is low the transmission simply doesn't work propperly.
Also check the colour of the fluid. It should be red. If it's turned light brown it's worn out and needs draining and replacing.
Also you can get a minor seal rebuild kit for autos usually fairly cheaply. This replaced some of the seals which may be worn out just by taking off the lower sump.
It could be a torque converter problem but I'm not too sure how you would test this without replacing it with a new one to find out...maybe see if you can get a free opinion from somebody at an automatic transmission rebuild place - if they are nice they will test drive your car and give an opinion.

Otherwise replacement EA automatics sell for really cheap becuase they aren't that popular. I've heard of people burying them in their back yards due to not being able to even give them away to people!

andrew...automatic cars have several "wet" clutches inside the gearbox...they are consistantly used and work in conjunction with the bands and all that crapola

2ndly... as andrew said oil is important....then i would suggest the torque convertor might be cactus...if that fails it might be the bands in the box or the wet clutches giving way.... i know this has a similar effect caus ive had it happen on 2 of my older cars...and turns out the wet clutches had burnt the oil which caused them to wear out rapidly...not a cheap fix....better off getting another auto box which is not expensive

Yes I'm aware of those...although it's not really worth going into that much detail with diagnosis on a gearbox like that. ie, EA gearbox? if it's got an internal problem you just replace the whole thing.
I don't think Jaffa (self confessed to know nothing about autos) was referring to them...more likely perhaps the torque converter which does more or less what the clutch does in a manual.

Lenard u know this is probably the perfect opportunity to upgrade to a manual transmission, find a donor wreck car for cheap and get a few blokes over with some beer and problem solved

First Thanks everyone who has given a shout Im going to give Andrew T's ideas ago hopefully its some thing simple and easy. Well to answer Q's its a 2wd 89 Leone Royal i don't drive it hard but now and then i will give it alil bit of a push but nothing major. I don't plan on putting in a Manual yet because straight up im a lazy driver i do love manuals but for now auto will do me thanks again everyone. Once the leone is back on the road we will have to go for a drive but thats in the furture

Well this is what has happened so far my dad, older bro and myself pulled the auto out and its all good so i take it on the road and all good i turn a 5km i grinding sound/like something is dragging on the ground and we worked out it must be the CV joint at the front of the car any one got any tips how to replace it?
