Subaru Forester Torque Curve and WRX STi Gearbox

Hi all,
I have noticed through my interest in possibly buying a Forester XS for my next car that in the post-2005 models they modified the max torque of the engine to 4400rpm rather than 3600rpm like in the previous models, from your experiences does this mean there is noticeably less responce from a standing start or very low speeds due to there been less low-end torque?
Also, as sure as I am that the standard 5 speed manual is good, has anyone ever managed ever to install a 6-speed manual from the WRX STi into a Forester or seriously discussed the idea?
Thanks in advance for any replies and/or assistance.
