Hey guys anyone got the secret to getting those horrible little spring pins back in every time I replace a CV I spend more time trying to get them back in than it took to get the cv out and back in. The outer ones on the rear seem to gon in and out fine its the inner front and rear. Ive tried using new ones but dont seem to fit and the old ones only go so far then stop. The CV are perfectly lined up but yet still drive me nuts. So any hints or tips would be appreciated.

sounds like there 180 degrees out. coz if they are then they look lined up but they arent lol

Are you talking about the pin through the axle. They are roll pins. Make sure that when you punch them out, you use a proper punch that is exactly the same size as the roll pin. If the punch is too small. then you will spread the pin inside the shaft and it will become near impossible to get it out.

Before re inserting the pin, check that the hole in the shaft is correctly aligned. Get a nice pointy nail and feel inside that the hole is aligned and that you can't feel a ridge where the hole is out a bit. Make sure the bevelled edge of the roll pin is in good order and tap it in squarely and steady when you start inserting it.

I had a shocker once and learnt the hard way. There is another bugger of a one on the gear linkage, smaller but just has troublesome.

easy way to test - this is what i always do- when you think you have it lined up slide your pin punch all the way through the hole (assuming punch is right size) if it goes thru then you have it on the right way! easy as piss

I've got a screwdriver with the end cut off as a punch, it's a perfect fit in the hole for pre-testing.

Plenty of people get away with using wire or long split pins instead.

They are called roll pins or split pins, and yes, look at the to see if it's 172o or 187o o out. (can't be 180 because it's got 23 or 25 splines!)
