Hi all
My mate is rebuilding his ea82 T,new rings, recond heads etc...
I want to know if the head bolts need replacing. If so,where do you buy them from?
Also the hydraulic lifters have been out of the motor for a while,do they need to be filled with oil b4 refitting? They weren't noisy b4 the motor was pulled apart.
Cheers
Chris

who knows, new head bolts may be a good idea, but generally not considered necessary to replace because they are torqued up to a rating as opposed to the torque to yield stretch ead bolts of newer models of car (maybe not 'newer', EA Falcon has these and it is 20 this year!)

I made the error of not storing my liftersin a bath of oil. They drained out over time, however on start up with Valvoline XLD 20W50 the lifters bed quite quickly on start up with a few revs at op temp.

I reused mine, but i made sure i cleaned the treads real good, so there were no little pieces of alluminium left on them.
Also get a small bottle brush, pipe cleaner kinda thing to clean out the threads in the block

if they arent "Torque to Yeild" head bolts like Steptoe says. they wont need replacing.

ya could also get away with not replacing them if they were but u wuld have to increase the final angle that your suppose to tighten them up (ie instead of 60 degrees final angle do more like 70 to 75, you can also buy a tool to measure this)

but if u do reuse them. run them round a wire wheel and clean them up ALOT, like Suparoo says

Lifters, suppose to be stored in oil but u can get away with not doing it.
get a container put some oil in it. then start bleeding the lifters in it.
basically squeeze them in the oil till they go hard and no more bubbles escape.
