I hav an EA82 carby with a really bad knock in it (its really nasty)
I recently done the lifters and front cranck seals, re-sealed the heads and re-built the oil pump but it still is knocking.

Any suggestions to why it is still doing this would be greatly appreciated...

Ive ran it for about 2 weeks im sure we primed the engine before we started it we hooked it up to a spare battery disconected the lead from the distributer
and let it tick over till the battery went flat.
I even asked a mechanic and they seem to think that there might even be a gap between the lash adjuster and the crank because is only on the drivers side.

i had a similar issue and a tiny pieace of dirt had blocked the oil supply restrictor to the heads.

Try a oil change and use a quart of lucas oil. My rig was loud as hell till I put in the stuff. Some times those lifters need a little help. Knocking went away in one day of driving for me. Hope it helps...

Already put a new timing belt on it etc before we changed plans.

Well its something on the lifter but only 1 on them. i remeber 1 side was that rooted that there was a bur around the lifters holding them in place but we got rid of that and put all new lifters in. I think 1 of the valve springs have gone soft, leaving a gap between cam and the lash adjuster, but still unsure been tryng to fugure it out for a couple of weeks

another problem can be the oil pump is sucking air and airating the oil. My sister's L had the seals IN the oil pump changed but we failed to replace the shaft seal. It took a 3000km trip to seal it up from dust/dirt etc. Sounded like a diesel before this happened - real nasty.

Cheers

the oil pump is fine we rebuilt that aswell and checked it yesterday to see if it was actually putting oil on the cams.

Don't get me wrong, the oil pump will pump oil, but at engine speed and temp it may find it easier to suck a little air into the system than suck the oil from the sump...

All of this said, you may not have this problem at all, i'm just coming in on another angle ;)
