gearbox oil? wat to use in a dual range L series box?

Sorry, can't help you with regard to the oil's viscosity.

i use redline light weight shock proof 'blue smirth shit' thats the best you can get in my eyes. but thats in my 6sp box and i dont know if u want to spend the coin on a l series box, but its well worth it

Yeah, Shockproof Light isn't cheap. I've got it in the Outback's gearbox and rear diff, but haven't decided if I'll also use it in the Brumby.

Brumby is running Multitrax in the gearbox.

a 75W90 will be right

yes im fairly sure multitrax is a 75w90. else an 80w 90 should be ok too.

I am using 85w90 Thuban from Caltex at the moment.

Its the stuff dad uses for the gearbox in the tractor. Costs me nothing and i havent had any problems

with the redline shockproof, another problem with it is that you'll need to change it more often. no doubting it's great stuff, after all it does exactly what it's designed to do, but think of it this way. the fluid is essentially microscopic balloons. those balloons go in between the gears to stop the gears touching each other, and thus the name shock proof. problem with that is the balloons eventually all pop, and eventually you'll have nothing lubricating your gearbox and i dont think the box will last much longer than that.

i plan on using castrol syntrax 75W-90. recommended by PAR for their gearsets - that's enough justification for me.
