How do I fit my rear half shaft easily?

I have had a half shaft out for a while after replacing a wheel bearing, now i need it back for a beach run tomorrow and I cant seem to get it to fit without pulling the stub axle?> Surely there is an easy way!!

tried jacking the wheel off the ground for more angle? also i find a bfh helps
