one of my mates who owns a MY wagon was asking me today about a problem that he has. I has an EJ22 conversion, pull out of a lib, has all the fruit, 2" lift kit and big wheels and all... its a bush basher that he has in lancelin.
He said it drove fine when in FWD and 4WD when going slow but as soon as he puts the foot down the rear diff kicks out causing a loud knock. he has checked the diff and all the mounts but cant seem do find the problem.
any suggestion would be appriciated
Cheers scott

classic Diff Hanger Bush above the front of the rear diff.
unless the diff isnt actually moving and its worn out gears inside.
also interesting to know its in lancelin and used as a bushbasher lol

My old problem broke its front rubber mount when offroading, caused an awful racket. I just shoved a stick in the mount and that held it pretty solid until I got home to replace it.
You can also get slop in the joints (cups open up) on the rear driveshafts which cause this type of noise too.

I am so glad someone has asked this - I checked mine last night just for shits and giggles and found that two thirds of the hanging donut was missing and the bit that was left was only there as the bolt had rusted and expanded enough to hold it there.
Where can you get these things from - I just rang Subaru at Fyshwick and they said Buckleys of getting one...

Last time I checked that was the one and only bush they couldn't supply. Although that was a while ago!

Well I found it after a trip to Fyshwick. Capital Steering and suspension provide them for $42.00 plus $120 in labour(its a 2 hour job...looks a right royal PITA!!).
He is also supplying and fitting KYB sports coil overs for $600 fitted although I am saving 2 hours of labour so will drop that to $400.
Drove in to get the diff to crossmember bush replaced - walk out with 4 x sports shocks and a lighter wallet:???:
