Remote keys

Post by Adam Wilson » Tue Oct 13, 2009 6:09 pm

Hi guy's, got the shock of my life the other day. Went in to Subaru in Mt Gravatt to check on the prices of a new remote key and they want about $440. Does anyone know of a cheaper way to do it Can I buy a dead key from somewhere and get a locksmith to cut a new key part and subaru to code it to my car?? Thanks for any help

hey Adam depending on the age of the car you can buy keys off ebay. And on your key ring which came with the car there should be an identification number just take the new key and the number to a locksmith and they can code the new key. in your subaru owners manual it talks about where to find the identification number.

The car is a 2001 Forester and I have been told that subaru are the only ones who can code the keys

most locksmiths that are up there with their gadgets can do them now, well worth looking into!!

Yeah we had to do that for one of my mate's Liberty last year, he refused to go to Subaru because of the price and he found an comprehensive locksmith that was able to do that, just open yellowpages and go from there. Yes there is a code in the owners manual.
Cheers
