EA82T Distributor Cap and Rotor Button
Hi peoples,
Like the heading says, I am looking for a new cap and button if someone can steer me in the right direction to suppliers.
Genuine at Toowoomba, want $57 for the cap and $26 for the rotor (cough Cough) Mines corroded on the contacts inside fairly bad so replacement would be a quick fix here I expect. Maybe FROg has something.
Thanks
T.

there have been some dramas with some ea82t dizzy caps bought new after market not fit. mine is whatever the listing was for 86 RX turbo with hitachi dizzy so all parts listed by bosch had HT to begin with I think. mind you found my current one has one hold down screw that bottomed out before holding cap down tight needing some surgery to correct. wish i could quote part numbers, i think they are in here somewhere. on my brumby i have written part numbers in in marker pen - did better listing of parts in my old computer - saved somewhere !!

Hey Trev, I remember that there was 2 different types of electronic dizzys for the EA82T.. Do you know what model/year of car your engine came out of? The best place to try for EA82T parts is Jules's favourite site.. EBay but make sure you set the search to worldwide as most of the EA82 parts are Ex-USA

Thanks everyone, Yes saw the ones on ebay in the states. And in the UK. My worry is getting one here and then finding that it is the wrong one. And no, I don't know what the engine has come out of.
I did notice that on one of the Ebay sites, they were showing that the cap was interchangeable with NISSAN so obviously a generic item like hitachi or so,. And thanks Toonga but yes, was after a new one if I can...and the one I have has no points either so means electronic I guess. I'll do some further research...need a part number really.
Thanks again. I guess the question is if there are two types, which one do I have??

Here is my old cap. Hitachi.

Ok latest on this. Took cap into repco today and gave the young fellow there a real workout. It is a hitachi cap, but not listed in his book as being on an Australian model car. So perhaps engine is an import. Anyway, after a lot of digging through their parts racks he found a bosch cap that looks the same ..$35. We'll see how this goes. Thanks everyone.

Can add to this now... the cap on my 3 plug ECU flapper version of Aust compliance plated RX 86 model uses the Bosch packaged HT 617 cap and GH 605 rotor
Distributor part number stamped on outside of the body is D4 R84-49 for Australian 86 models, D4 R84-50 for elsewhere
Trevor, any numbers you get may help others in future especially if they are different to mine, certain one screw on cap will be too long and need some shortening...

Yes sorry about that...The bosch cap that I got from repco fitted perfectly. The screws went into the distributor like it was meant for it. The miss in the engine has gone. So at this stage, I have rerouted the vacuum lines. The ecu has it own dedicated vacuum from the plenum chamber. I removed the increase boost tap and lines and run some new vacuum lines about the engine. A lot of the flat spot has gone, runs a bit rich I feel but certainly better than before.
Part number for the cap is below. Thanks everyone

Great info guys and going to be very useful to others.
Trev.. Glad to hear most of the flat spots are gone. Maybe just fixing the fuel issue now?

Thanks Paul, Yes. I feel I'm starting to get somewhere ...I lifted the idle a bit and it is certainly more driveable. When you decelerate in gear it starts to surge and kangaroo hop a bit as you come up to the lights, but it accelerates fine and idles good. ??? still contemplating taking it to Brisbane to the EMS Stinger ECU performance garage that looked after it before I bought it. I have spoken to him on the phone and I am doing a fair bit of guitar work at the moment so little bit of money getting around. I would say that since the last tune, someone hacked into the vacuum lines to install BOV lines and Boost adjusters and upset the ECU vacuum.

good luck with the tune Trev.. let us know how it turns out?
I'm not familiar with the EMS Stinger but most of them are alike. I'd buy yourself a wideband O2 sensor and a widerange lambda gauge.. it will help with tuning and also help you keep an eye on how the EMS is working.
