Post by yarney » Fri Jan 06, 2012 5:18 pm

My speed sensor on the gearbox has died so i got a another one from the wreckers
Now the problem when i got it home my one is a 2 pin the one from the wreckers is 3 pin:???:
Can i use the 3 pin one on my car but leaving one wire off or is there a trick to it or did i wast my money:(
There were 4 foresters there and all were 3 pin 1999-2001 you wouldn't think they would change something like that
Please help

The sensors are all 2 wire devices, yellow being the signal and white is connected to ground/negative. the 3rd wire you have is a shield and is joined to the white ground wire. You could probably leave is disconnected

there were big changes mid '98 to the Foresters. The engine and electrics all changed, and they went from 4 bolt to 8 bolt bellhousings. Pretty hard to tell from the outside though. I would have thought it would make more sense to change when they did the facelift...
