Rear speakers in a brumby....

Post by Chopper05 » Tue Aug 21, 2012 12:06 pm

hey guys,

Am new to the site and about 6 mths ago bought myself a brumby. It had been sitting around a guys property for years and only used to move fire wood. It was in great condition apart from a little paint and needed a good clean and service. It will be on the road soon and looking to put a pair of 6x9 speakers behind the seats built into a box/ storage space.

Has anyone done this and if so any suggestions on how best to?

It's a waste. Better of installing a decent fronts. For such a small area a good set is splits will do the job

Yeah, when I got my Brumby someone had already placed a set of 6x9's in the back ( loose in box, behind seat )
As for sound quality - it helps a little with staging + with a bit of base - but I can't recommend it.
( Sorry I don't have any Pic's of this )

As Alex stated - you'd be better off going for decent set up front first.

See link for what I've attempted ... : http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v470/ ... ior/Doors/
( I might do a 'how to' or similar on this when I've finished it )

I was also looking at installing an amp + display on the back wall but the 'GFC' stopped it for now ... :(

Doesn't Supercheap Autos sell 6x9 boxes that you could put behind the seat and remove in and out when ever you like?

Thanks for the feedback guys, much appreciated.

Looks like i will have a change of plans and will look into the splits. Does anyone know if a 6 or 6.5 speaker will fit into the same spot as the standard 4" without using a spacer? hoping to get away from changing the door trim.

Was going to go the 6x9 for bass but may get enough if i put the splits through an amp.

Alpine 6.5" Splits R-Types are pretty good. About $300 for a pair and they through out really good bass for 6.5's. You will need to run them through an amp giving atleast 100rms though..

For what they are and the price they put out a good sound, not loud enough for my liking but everyone else I know says they are deafening and yet still clear. I am somewhat deaf though, even at 19 yrs of age haha

I have 6.5" splits in the doors and a 10" free air sub under the drivers seat mounted to a 16mm thick mdf board and bolted to the floor. A big amp sits under the passenger seat. The result is very impressive for a Brumby.

You will need spacers. I doubt the window will wind down to clear the speaker magnet unless you get some slim which are generally expensive speakers

I agree. Spacers a must if you want the full movement of your window glass!

Here's how I've got around it, thanks to Tex I think it was that tipped me off to this:

Works a treat as a spacer and gives you extra pocket space too ;) These are from the VP, VR, VS commos :D

El Freddo, that looks great! Think I will go down that path. From the photo it looks like colour matches pretty well. Any idea what they go for?

I got "mine" for $15 at a Pick a part wreckers in melbourne. The speakers have a factory spacer to mount in, they work a treat. I've got them in my L series too :D

I've seen some on ebay for $20 so will bid on it, if not will try a wrecker in S.E melb, there are plenty around. Much modifying for them to fit (cutting etc)?

Try out Pick a part Kilsyth or Centre Road wreckers (not their name anymore) - centre road Clayton ;)

The hardest part of fitting them was getting the screw holes in the right spot ;)

There's an odd little gap at one point on the speaker area due to the shape of the brumby's door card. We can live with that and thus haven't done anything about it.
